Giving Back at The Alfond Inn at Rollins
Winter Park, Florida – The Alfond Inn at Rollins, the award winning Florida hotel, was designed with three purposes in mind. First, it was built to be Winter Park’s very first luxury boutique hotel. The property was also designed to exhibit The Alfond Collection of Contemporary Art , which is part of the collection of the Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College, and as such is the only hotel in the United States that serves as the extension of an art museum. Finally, what sets The Alfond Inn at Rollins apart from any other hotel is that it was created to endow scholarships. Owned by Rollins College, the origins of the The Alfond Inn are rooted in philanthropy. It was built with a $12.5 million grant from the Harold Alfond Foundation.
All net profits from The Alfond Inn are directed to the Alfond Scholars Program, the College’s premier scholarship fund. These full ride, four year scholarships include tuition, room and board, and are awarded to deserving first-year students in the College of Liberal Arts at Rollins College. The approximate value of each scholarship is more than $264,000 over four years. Since 2013, when the Alfond Inn opened, 63 full scholarships have been awarded.
On top of receiving full scholarships to attend Rollins, Alfond Scholars are mentored as candidates for additional prestigious academic recognition such as Rhodes, Goldwater, and Truman scholars. Every guest of the hotel makes a significant difference in the lives of the students who are awarded these important scholarships at Rollins, one of the country’s top liberal arts institutions.
